A foreign consortium including Japanese and Malaysian developers won the bid to operate the Gate of Taipei BOT project. Expected to be completed in 2017, the twin skyscrapers will integrate transportation links and become a new landmark in downtown Taipei.

Located near Taipei Main Station, these two plots of land, C1 and D1, are specially designated for the Gate of Taipei BOT project. In the past five years, this project has failed to attract successful bidders four times, though a new multi-national consortium has stepped forward to undertake what is being billed as the biggest development project in Taiwan’s history.

The consortium includes some of the top development companies in Northeast and Southeast Asia. It includes Japan’s Mori Group and Futsu Construction along with Malaysia’s IGB Corporation Behrad and Mid Valley City.

The total investment is expected to be around NT$70-80 billion with the total floor area reaching 158,000 pings. That is 1.5 times bigger than Taipei 101. Construction is expected to be completed in 2017 or 2018. 

The project includes the development of a shopping mall, office and an international hotel. It will integrate three different rail lines and highway buses and will serve as a terminal on the soon to be completed Taoyuan Airport MRT line.

We expect it will create 23,000 job opportunities and include annual tax revenues of NT$1.1 billion or more. It is expected to increase economic output by more than NT$30 billion a year.

This development project carries out a similar model followed in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, where MRT stations are integrated to offer extended airport express services and functions.

標到的”太極雙星團隊”集結了集合東北亞、東南亞頂尖開發商,成員包括日本森集團、互助營造、馬來西亞商怡保花園有限公司(IGB CORPORATION BEHRAD) 馬來西亞商谷中城私人有限公司( MID VALLEY CITY SDN.BHD.) 等,共同投資。

此投資金額就高達7、8百億元,整個總樓地板面積15.8萬坪,當於101大樓的1.5倍,預估106到107年就會完工。

未來可以開發成商場、辦公室,也能拿來當作國際飯店,而且三鐵共構,還緊鄰客運,再加上桃園機場捷運線即將完工,創造的產值無限。

這也是繼香港、吉隆坡及曼谷後,在全世界的捷運站裡,有延伸國際機場服務功能的第4個城市及地區。
