FTV signs contract with New Taipei City to develop media village in Linkou (2013/10/07)

FTV and the New Taipei City government signed a contract to invest NT$1.5 billion in the New Taipei Media Village. The project will be based in Linkou District and will aid development of the local television and film industries.

New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu and FTV General Manager Chen Gang-sin signed a contract to cooperate on the development of the New Taipei Media Village in Linkou. FTV will oversee the planning and construction of the project, and the facility is expected to become the center of Taiwan's broadcast industry.

New Taipei Mayor
In the future, this area will be open to various television stations and television drama groups. It’s truly an open media village which can boost the domestic television and film industry.

Chen Gang-sin
FTV General Manager
The New Taipei Media Village is a sort of microcosm of Taiwan’s past, including likenesses of streets in Taipei’s Dadaocheng area, Japanese houses similar to those from the colonial era as well as western Baroque inspired architecture.

FTV has invested NT$1.5 billion in the 1.34 hectare New Taipei Media Park to create a better location for filming serial dramas, and potentially compete against similar dramas from Japan and Korea.

Chen Gang-sin
FTV General Manager
The (South Korean drama ) Dae Jang-gum is exported all over the world, allowing South Korea to earn hundreds of millions of US dollars. It also introduces Korean culture to the world. Looking back, we see that that the KMT once operated the Chinese Culture and Movie Center at Waishuangxi. Now that this facility is gone, there are no other places to film in Taiwan.

Chen stressed that the future filming of serial dramas in this new media center is not only destined for consumption by the local Taiwan market but will also target foreign audiences as well.
