少子化時代來臨，南部幾所私立學校，面臨生存危機！像是屏東永達技術學院，最近校方傳出，積欠老師8個月薪水，教育部回應，如果情況沒改善，不排除祭出退場機制。

屏東永達技術學院不但這學期只收到400名學生，最近還傳出老師八個月沒領薪水，昨天老師拉布條抗議後，學校釋出善意，決定先發兩個月薪水。

當然這個也是因為經濟不景氣，造成經濟不好，然後少子化的衝擊。

不只永達技術學院，發生財務困難，屏東高鳳數位學院，也因為積欠七百萬，拍賣教學器材，免於被查封的命運，還有高美醫專，只剩下900名學生的，校方也在想辦法，如何"起死回生"。

接管我們目前沒有這一方面的考量，先輔導改善或者是轉型，你辦另外一種，不然就停辦，停辦當然學生會安置。

這三所學校，非少數個案。不過私立學校警告，真的危機還在後頭，因為三年後，學生人數將比現在還少五萬，呼籲政府要趕快拿出具體配套。

Several private schools and colleges in southern Taiwan say they fear eventual closure due to low enrollment. But instead of providing needed assistance, the Ministry of Education may simply let them shut down. It said today that it has not ruled out introducing a mechanism to close struggling schools. 

Problems are mounting at the Yung Ta Institute of Technology and Commerce. The Pingtung school only has 400 students enrolled this semester, and there are reports that teachers haven’t been paid in eight months. Following a protest, the school decided to provide two months of the missing pay.

We don’t owe seven months. In the next two days we will provide salary. We owe about six months. This situation is a result of the poor economy and lower birth rates.

Similar problems are affecting other schools. The Kao Feng College of Digital Contents auctioned teaching material to pay off NT$7 million in debt. Otherwise, it feared property would be seized. The Kaomei Junior College of Health Care and Management has only 900 students and is fighting for survival. The Ministry of Education is not making any promises of support.

We haven’t considered taking over the management of these schools. First we will advise them on how to make improvements or transform their operations. If these efforts are unsuccessful, then they may need to close. Of course arrangements would be made for the students. 

Problems faced by these three institutions are not uncommon, and private schools warn that threat of closures will only continue to grow. Three years from now, there is projected to be a further decrease of 50,000 students. The schools are pleading for the government to come up with a rescue plan.
