The first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia Earhart, was born this month in 1897. Earhart, who always had a spirit for adventure, got her first bit of excitement when she attached a ramp to the roof of her family's tool shed and slid off it in a wooden box. The seven-year-old crashed to the ground and shouted that it was just like flying. From then on, the young Earhart did whatever she could to get herself in the air.
As a young adult, Earhart worked a number of odd jobs to save enough money for pilot lessons. It was not long afterwards that Earhart began setting records. On October 22, 1922, she became the first female pilot to fly over 14,000 feet.

愛蜜莉亞•厄爾哈特是第一位獨自飛越大西洋的女飛行員，她出生於 1897 年七月。厄爾哈特一直有冒險精神，她得到她一開始的小樂趣是在她把一個斜坡接到她家工具棚的屋頂，再坐在一個木箱裡從上面滑下來。這位七歲女孩撞到地面後，大叫著這就像飛起來的感覺。從那時起，年輕的厄爾哈特盡她所能要讓自己在天空翱翔。
