【rather than 怎麼用？】

rather than 在字典裡通常被分為兩種詞性，第一是當連接詞(conj.)，第二是當介係詞用(prep.)。rather than 當連接詞時有「不是… (而是…)、而不是…」的意思，指在兩種選擇中有一種是比較不喜歡的；而 rather than 當介系詞時指「而不是…」，等於 instead of 或 in preference to 的意思，現在一起來看看下面的用法吧！

¿ rather than 當連接詞時也就是 and not 的意思。

例：He had noodles for dinner rather than pizza.

(他晚餐吃麵而不是吃披薩。) = He had noodles for dinner, not pizza. 

例：Rather than went home for Christmas with her family, Tracy stayed at her office to work overtime. 

(崔西不是回家跟家人過聖誕節，而是留在辦公室加班。)

¿另一個常見的用法是 would rather…than…，指「寧可…而不願…」，此處的 rather than 也是當連接詞，其後接原形動詞。

例：Many students who run away from school claim that they would rather do something meaningful elsewhere than go to school to learn the lessons which they don’t like.

(許多逃學的學生宣稱他們寧願到別處做些有意義的事，而不是去學校上他們不喜歡的課。)

¿ rather than 當介系詞時也就是 instead of 的意思。

例：It’s the manager rather than‧instead of the assistant to take the blame.

(是經理要去承擔這個責任而不是助理。)
