The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events in Stars Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, released in 1983. In that story, Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker had just defeated Darth Vader, and the rebel army had successfully destroyed the Death Star. It appeared that peace had returned to the galaxy. Now, however, a new threat has awakened and Skywalker must pass on his knowledge of the Force to a new hero.
