Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) The 7th Legislative Yuan has passed a total of 89 bills and billions worth of budget proposals to help bolster the economy during recent period of global economic uncertainty, Wang Jin-pyng, speaker of the Legislative Yuan, said at the last session Wednesday, bidding farewell to outgoing lawmakers. For example, the Legislative Yuan approved the cross-strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement in 2009 to increase economic exchanges between Taiwan and China, and completed the country's second-generation National Health Insurance System in January this year, Wang said. Both achievements were considered important for Taiwan's development, he added. "It is very sad to say goodbye to those hard-working outgoing lawmakers, but I wish them all the best," he said. "Although people have said a statesman is politician who is dead, what I have done can withstand the test of time," said five-term Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lee Chun-yee from the Greater Tainan at his farewell speech. "I started my service 16 years ago when I was a thirty-something man who had no political or affluent background," Lee said, and added that the trust of his voters was the most precious asset in his life. "It is important to adjust your way of thinking when taking different positions, and never lose heart or faith," said outgoing DPP Legislator Huang Sue-ying. The Kuomintang's Yang Jen-fu reflected that he sold his father's last cow to raise campaign funds years ago and was now leaving with no regrets. "I hope that the welfare of aboriginal people could be improved," he said. Yang represents aboriginal community in the country. (By Tseng Ying-yu, Ho Meng-kuei and Maia Huang )
