America’s 15th oldest park and one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon National Park was officially made a park this month in 1919. The canyon itself is estimated to be six million to 70 million years old. According to some geologists, the Colorado River has been carving through the canyon for the past six million years.
Theodore Roosevelt, America’s 26th president and an outdoorsman, was a big supporter of making the Grand Canyon a national park back in 1903. Since then, the canyon, along with its surrounding park, has received more than five million visitors per year.
