he University of Tokyo has sacked an associate professor over a series of anti-Chinese comments he posted on Twitter last year, triggering a heated debate online.
東京大學因一名副教授去年在推特發表一連串反中國人言論而將他開除，在網路上引起激辯。
Shohei Ohsawa, an artificial intelligence researcher, "grossly damaged the honour and reputation" of the state-run university, it said in the statement.
這所國立大學在聲明中說，人工智慧研究者大澤昇平「嚴重損害了學校聲譽」。
The 32-year-old, who runs blockchain and AI development company Daisy Co, tweeted between November and December that his firm "will not hire Chinese".

"I will not bother to hold an interview if [I learn the applicant is] Chinese,"he wrote.

Ohsawa said his dismissal was "unfair" and that the university was "wrong in making light of Japan’s AI technology development while valuing the diversity of various Asian countries".
大澤說，東大開除他「不公平」，該校「重視亞洲各國多元性，卻輕視日本人工智慧技術的發展，是個錯誤」。
