The end of the Covid-19 pandemic is “in sight”, the World Health Organization has declared, after revealing that weekly deaths from the virus around the world were at the lowest level since March 2020.
世界衛生組織公布全球因新冠病毒死亡人數是自2020年3月以來最低，宣布新型冠狀病毒肺炎的大流行疫情結束「在望」。
However, it cautioned that coronavirus still posed an “acute global emergency” and highlighted that during the first eight months of 2022 more than 1 million people died from Covid-19.
然而，世衛提醒，新冠病毒仍造成「全球緊急狀態的急性階段」，並強調在2022年前8個月內，有超過100萬人死於此病毒。
The director general of the international health body, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told a press conference: “We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic – we are not there yet, but the end is in sight."
這個國際衛生組織的秘書長譚德塞在記者會上說，「現在是這場大流行疫情最有可能結束的時候，我們還沒達到那一步，但是結束在望」。
“A marathon runner does not stop when the finish line comes into view, she runs harder, with all the energy she has left. So must we.”
「跑馬拉松的人不會在終點線出現在眼前時就停下來，她會用盡所剩力氣更努力地跑。我們也必須如此。」
