More than 3,000 scientists called for a far bigger global push to protect people and nature from the effects of a heating planet.

In a statement, the scientists - including five Nobel laureates - warned that a failure to respond to rising climate risks, as governments try to revive their economies from coronavirus woes, would have severe consequences, especially for the poorest.

這批包括5名諾貝爾獎得主的科學家在聲明中警告，在各個政府設法重振受武漢肺炎疫情拖累的經濟之際，未能回應日益高漲的氣候風險，會有嚴重後果，特別是對最貧窮族群。

"Building resilience to climate impacts is not a nice-to-have... it is a must if we are to live in a sustainable and secure world," said former U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. （Thomson Reuters Foundation）
