Kazakhstan abolished the death penalty, making permanent a nearly two-decade freeze on capital punishment in the authoritarian Central Asian country, a notice on the presidential website said Saturday.

週六在哈薩克總統府網站的一份公告說，該國廢除了死刑，使得在這個中亞專制國家被凍結執行將近20年的極刑正式告終。

The notice said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had signed off on parliamentary ratification of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights － a document that commits signatories to the abolition of capital punishment.

公告說，總統托卡耶夫已經簽署國會認可的「公民權利及政治權利國際公約第二任擇議定書」，這是讓締約國承諾廢除死刑的文件。

Executions were paused in Kazakhstan from 2003 but courts continued to sentence convicts to death in exceptional circumstances, including for crimes deemed acts of terror.

哈薩克自2003年起暫停執行死刑，但是法院仍繼續對特殊案例做出死刑判決，包括犯下恐怖主義罪行。

Ruslan Kulekbayev was among the convicts set to be executed if the moratorium were lifted. Kulekbayev will now serve a life sentence in jail instead. （AFP）

The anthem, "Advance Australia Fair," has been tweaked to recognize the country’s Indigenous history and communities, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced.

澳洲總理莫里森宣布，國歌「前進澳洲美之國」已經被些微修正，承認該國原住民歷史與社群。

The first line, "Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free," will now end with "one and free."

第一句「澳洲人，讓我們歡笑吧，因為我們年輕又自由」，將改為以「團結又自由」結束。

The anthem has become controversial in recent years, amid growing conversation about Indigenous representation, systemic inequality, and racial injustice. In particular, many have pushed back against the phrase "for we are young and free", a nod to when Britain’s First Fleet landed in Australia in 1788.

這首國歌在近幾年變得備受爭議，在愈來愈多關於原住民形象、系統性不平等，與種族不正義的對話中。許多人尤其反對「因為我們年輕又自由」這句（歌詞），贊同英國第一艦隊1788年登陸澳洲的歷史。

The government has a history of changing the song to be more inclusive － when Peter Dodds McCormick’s original 1878 composition was declared the official national anthem in 1984, replacing "God Save the Queen," two instances of "sons" were switched with gender-neutral phrasing.

政府過去也曾改動這首歌，以更具包容性。當彼得．多滋．麥考米克1878年譜寫的原曲，於1984年取代「天佑女王」被定為國歌時。曾將歌詞兩處的「兒子」改為性別中立的詞語。

Air pollution does not respect national boundaries and environmental degradation will lead to mass migration in the future, said a leading barrister in the wake of a landmark migration ruling, as experts warned that government action must be taken as a matter of urgency.

一位頂尖大律師在一項具有里程碑意義的移民裁決後稱，空氣污染不受國界限制，環境惡化將在未來導致大規模移民。專家警告稱，事態緊急，政府必須採取行動。

Sailesh Mehta, a barrister specialising in environmental cases, said: "As global warming makes parts of our planet uninhabitable, mass migration will become the norm. Air and water pollution do not respect national boundaries."

Brazil recorded a record number of divorces during the second half of 2020, the national college of notaries said, as married couples grew sick of one another after long periods of time cooped up at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

巴西全國人公證協會指出，該國離婚對數在2020年下半年創下紀錄，因為在新型冠狀病毒疫情之下，長時間困於家中的夫妻已厭倦彼此。

Latin America’s biggest country, home to the world’s second deadliest outbreak after the United States, recorded 43,859 divorces in the final six months of last year, up 15% compared with the same period in 2019, and the highest total since record-keeping began in 2007.

這個拉丁美洲最大國家的疫情病故人數，在世界上僅次於美國；其去年最後6個月有4萬3859對夫妻離婚，比前年同期上升15％，也是2007年有紀錄以來最高數字。

The college said the total number of divorces for the full year of 2020 was lower than in 2019, but only because notaries were closed during March and April last year amid the first wave of the pandemic.

協會表示，2020全年的離婚總對數比前年低，但這僅是因為協會在去年3至4月第一波疫情爆發時關閉。

However, a tool it rolled out to allow couples to register divorces online drove up numbers, as partners found it easier to officially separate. （Reuters）

Stefan Thomas, a programmer living in San Francisco, has two guesses left to figure out a password that is worth about $220 million.

居於舊金山的程式設計師斯特凡．湯瑪斯只剩下兩次猜測的機會，能找出價值約2.2億美元的密碼。

The password will let him unlock a small hard drive which contains the private keys to a digital wallet that holds 7,002 Bitcoin.

這組密碼能讓他解鎖1枚含有幾把數位錢包私密鑰匙的小硬碟，錢包內裝了7002枚比特幣。

The problem is that Mr. Thomas years ago lost the paper where he wrote down the password for his hard drive, which gives users 10 guesses before it seizes up and encrypts its contents forever. He has since tried eight of his most commonly used password formulations — to no avail.

問題是，湯瑪斯幾年前弄丟了1張他曾寫下硬碟密碼的紙，而硬碟在永久停用並加密內容之前，給使用者10次猜密碼的機會。他已經嘗試了8組他最常用的密碼組合，但都沒有成功。

Of the existing 18.5 million Bitcoin, around 20 percent appear to be in lost or otherwise stranded wallets, according to the cryptocurrency data firm Chainalysis.
