Zookeepers in Prague sometimes have to become puppeteers to save newborn birds rejected by their parents. This was the case for a lesser yellow-headed vulture chick hatched three weeks ago.

Bird keeper Antonín Vaidl said Thursday that when a dummy egg disappeared from the nest, it signaled to keepers that the parents were not ready to care for their two babies, despite doing so in 2022 and 2023.

Vaidl said the puppet is needed to make sure the bird will be capable of breeding, which it won’t if it gets used to human interaction.

He explained that the puppet doesn’t have to be a perfect replica of an adult bird because the chick responds to certain signals, such as the pale orange coloration on its featherless head and neck.

US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods over its purchase of Russian energy, the White House said Wednesday.
美國總統川普針對印度採購俄羅斯能源，課徵印度產品額外的25％關稅，白宮週三宣布。
The new levy — which will stack on top of a 25% country-specific tariff— will take effect within 21 days, according to an executive order signed by Trump.
此將疊加在25％特定國家關稅之上的新關稅，將在21天內生效，根據川普簽署的行政命令。
“I find that the Government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil,” President Donald Trump said in an executive order.

Trump’s new tariff rate on India is now among the highest levies on any of the United States’ trading partners.

North Korea has completed construction on a massive tourist resort boasting colourful water slides and swimming pools, state media said on Thursday, a pet project of leader Kim Jong Un.

Kim on Tuesday attended a lavish inaugural ceremony for the tourist zone, which hosts accommodation for nearly 20000 people and what Pyongyang claims is "a world-class cultural resort", the Korean Central News Agency said.

A big bull moose has spent the summer lingering around a popular Adirondack mountain hiking trail, prompting New York state wildlife officials to close the path as they monitor the potentially ailing animal.

The Goodman Mountain trail in the Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest has been temporarily closed since June 6 due to the oddly behaving animal. The moose is staying on or around the trail near the summit, sometimes sitting and sometimes foraging in a small area, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

President Donald Trump’s reciprocal levies will likely weigh on economic growth and push up prices while hammering the global economy, according to Bloomberg Economics.
