427反核佔據忠孝西路，由於今天是週一上班日，有上班通勤需求，市長郝龍斌下令警方凌晨發動驅離，鎮暴警察搭配強力水車，搶在清晨六點多淨空馬路。台北市長郝龍斌上午在議會接受質詢，還很堅持群眾是違法行為。

水柱猛沖，反核人士站都站不穩，又濕又痛狼狽腳軟，占領忠孝西路行動，節節敗退。

第一波驅離行動從週一凌晨2點50分展開，保安警察組人牆推進，一邊驅趕一邊勸離。

強力水柱襲擊，加上警方的口袋戰術，將反核群眾逼回立法院一帶。一過凌晨6點，忠孝西路已初步清空，忠孝西路這才恢復通車，結束忠孝西路的一夜占領。

今天上午在台北市議會，民進黨台北市議員童仲彥，公佈影片，痛批警方驅離反核民眾，再度動用武力。

議員質疑員警執法過當，郝龍斌表示只要證據屬實，一定依法究辦。

Sunday’s occupation of Zhongxiao West Road spilled over to this morning. To restore normal traffic conditions at the start of the work week, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin ordered the use of water cannons to disperse the crowd. 

This water cannon is enough to knock anti-nuclear activists of their feet, leaving them wet and in pain. It was one of several methods used to expel protesters from Zhongxiao West Road this morning.

The first wave of forced evictions began at 2:50 am as riot police formed a human wall, directing protesters to leave the area.

Later the police resorted to the use of the water cannon, forcing protesters back towards the Legislature. At about 6 am, Zhongxiao West Road began to reopen to traffic as the one evening occupation ended. 

This morning at Taipei City Council, DPP Taipei City Councilor Tung Chung-yen showed footage to criticize the use of force by police in the eviction of anti-nuclear protesters.

Hau did say that the city would investigate any credible evidence of excessive police force.

林義雄禁食第七天，體力瀕臨潰堤邊緣，從宜蘭祭祖返回義光教會後，待了一個多小時，就決定前往台大醫院調養身體，但志工透露，這不代表禁食行動中斷，有支持者見到林義雄為了反核變得這麼虛弱，忍不住落淚。

前民進黨主席林義雄為反核四禁食進入第7天，上午他首度步出教會，返回宜蘭祭祖。

下午回到義光教會後，林義雄需要攙扶才走得動，可見體力已來到臨界點。
在下午三點多，林義雄在志工陪同下，再度走出教會，決定赴台大醫院就醫。

A hunger strike by former DPP Chairman Lin Yi-hsiung is among several factors that contributed to concessions from the KMT toward the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. Monday was the seventh day of Lin’s strike. Visibly weakened, Lin left the protest site to get treatment at National Taiwan University Hospital. 

For the first time since the start of his hunger strike one week earlier, Lin Yi-hsiung left the church where he has been staying to pray to his ancestors in Yilan.

In the afternoon, upon returning to Gikong Church, Lin needed help to walk. His energy all but gone, at 3 pm Lin left the church again to head to National Taiwan University Hospital.

Mr. Lin gives the utmost thanks to everyone for the attention and hard work they have put into watching over him. Mr. Lin has gone to the hospital for treatment. Once his physical condition has improved, he will formally offer thanks to everyone.

At the hospital Lin received treatment, including an IV, and underwent examinations.

行政院長江宜樺，上午再度親自上火線，宣佈核四停工，未來交給全民公投來決定，但是並非反核團體要求的停建，就是留下一個可供選擇的機會，針對江宜樺的說法，民進黨團呼籲江宜樺應該到立法院做專案報告。

江宜樺沒有對專案報告回應。針對下修公投的門檻，民進黨願意把黨團的核四公投特別條例門檻，從原本的簡單多數，提高到公民總數的四分之一，江宜樺不為所動。

綠營讓步，希望核四公投特別條例，有機會在明天的院會能夠順利闖關，不過，藍營多數立委跟府方態度一樣，不買單。

A gap remains between the government and anti-nuclear power protesters. While Premier Jiang Yi-huah has agreed to halt work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, he will not concede a halt to construction. Jiang hopes to leave room for the government to build support so the plant can open in the future. 

This was the premier after it was announced that the first reactor would be mothballed following safety tests and that work would halt on the second reactor.

Mothballing and halting work to reactors of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant does not mean that construction will end or that the plant will be abandoned. With no consensus yet possible on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant and popular will yet to be expressed in the form of a referendum, we decided on this method. Our hope is to reserve a choice for the next generation.

We asked him to come hold negotiations with the DPP caucus as soon as possible. Tomorrow afternoon, he can give a special report and participate in a question-and-answer session.

Jiang did not respond to the request. The DPP also wants a special revision to reduce the voter turnout threshold for validating the nuclear referendum. It had been asking for a simple majority, but instead will accept one-quarter turnout. Still, Jiang is unwilling to budge.

The DPP wants its lowered threshold passed tomorrow. With the majority KMT caucus on board with the Cabinet, chances are slim.

CNN reported that foreigners find several Taiwanese snacks revolting, such as preserved eggs, pig blood rice pudding and stinky tofu. To dispel this assertion, a local university invited chefs to put a twist on the ingredients so they would be more appealing to foreigners. 

A German chef chops this preserved egg and tofu and places it into a martini glass. He then tops it with mashed potato and decorations. This European delicacy infused with preserved egg received a mixed response from foreign students.

Another wasabi flavored dish is made from stinky tofu with ham and cheese inserted in the middle. Taipei Chengshih University of Science and Technology is trying to challenge CNN’s assertion that such foods are repulsive to foreigners by inviting foreign and Taiwanese chefs to put a twist on the foods.

Students from Lin Yuan Elementary School, Kaohsiung returned to Taiwan today as winners in the recent First Lego League robotics competition. At the FLL competition in Missouri they developed a robot capable of overcoming obstacles associated with a tsunami disaster. Their gold medal is the first for the school in an international competition.

Students from National Chiayi Industrial Vocational High School stood out at the recent southern regional championships of the National Skills Competition. Chief among them was this girl, Yan Shi-di, who shined in the automobile painting category. Last year Yan finished sixth in the national competition, and in August she will have another opportunity to try to top this performance.

Koala Watch
Joyful news from the Taipei Zoo – staff inspecting the brood pouch of four koala bears found that three had babies. It is the second time in 11 years that the zoo has had so many baby koalas at once. At the end of the year, these bundles of joy are expected to greet zoo goers.
