"While on my balcony, I saw the woman climb on her railing. It happened so quickly. Not knowing what her intentions were, I alerted the crew. If I said nothing, and she was going to jump, that would be horrible," he told CNN.

Activist Olimpia Coral went through an inferno in 2013, when an ex-boyfriend posted sexual images that made the rounds in her conservative town in Mexico.

Things got so bad - the shaming, the internet bullying - that she hid in the trunk of a taxi when going to her grandmother’s house a few blocks away. The local newspaper had even published screenshots of the video, showing Coral and the man having sex; only she was identifiable.

Seven years later, she has a proposed federal law named after her - Olimpia’s Law. Mexico’s Senate has approved prison time for the filming or distribution of sexually images without a person’s consent or through deceit.

It was the product of many years of struggle by women’s groups, who have already convinced 29 of Mexico’s 32 states to adapt existing laws or pass new ones against the practice.(AP)

As more and more people compete for short supplies of the life-saving Covid-19 vaccine, some of the oldest and most infirm Americans are struggling just to enter the contest.

Tom Yates, 71, is in dire need of a shot, but unable to secure it. Yates and many like him have been locked out thanks to a lack of access to and familiarity with smartphones, computers and web-based appointment signups.

The problem has worsened as states open shots to people 65 and older, putting the oldest in competition for rapidly disappearing slots with seniors who are more computer-savvy and mobile.(Bloomberg)

An NHS medic has written and recorded a song encouraging people to come forward to have their Covid-19 jab.

Lloyd Balatongan, a theatre practitioner at the Royal Derby Hospital, composed the song with his family band The Soulm8s.

A video for the track shows it being performed at the hospital with staff displaying their vaccine cards.

Mr Balatongan said he decided to get creative when he heard about people who were "adamant" they would not come forward for the jab.

"I tried to write a song just to convince them [the doubters] to get the vaccine to protect themselves and others, and get us out of this pandemic," he said.

Sixty-six million years ago, a huge celestial object struck off the coast of what is now Mexico, triggering a catastrophic "impact winter" that eventually wiped out three-quarters of life on Earth, including the dinosaurs.

A pair of astronomers at Harvard say they have now resolved long standing mysteries surrounding the nature and origin of the "Chicxulub impactor."

Their analysis suggests it was a comet that originated in a region of icy debris on the edge of the solar system, that Jupiter was responsible for it crashing into our planet, and that we can expect similar impacts every 250 million to 750 million years.

The duo’s paper, published in the journal Scientific Reports this week, pushes back against an older theory that claims the object was a fragment of an asteroid that came from our solar system’s Main Belt.
