Lost cat from Colorado found in New York 科羅拉多走失貓 在紐約被發現

A pet cat that went missing in Colorado five years ago was found wandering in Manhattan, and will soon be sent on a plane to reunite with its former owners, an animal pound spokesman said.
5年前一隻在科羅拉多走失的寵物貓，被發現浪跡於曼哈頓街頭，不久牠將被送上飛機，與牠的前飼主重聚，動物收容所發言人指出。
Workers at the pet shelter traced Willow the cat back to a family in Colorado, thanks to a microchip embedded in the animal’s neck that they checked with a scanner, said Richard Gentles, spokesman for Animal Care & Control of New York City.
拜嵌進貓咪「薇洛」頸部內的晶片之賜，動物收容所的工作人員經掃描器檢查，追查到牠來自科羅拉多州的一個家庭，紐約市動物照護管理中心發言人詹托斯說。
A citizen found the brown, black and white cat recently prowling the streets on the East Side of Manhattan, and the animal was taken to the shelter.
一名市民發現這隻棕黑白三色貓近來在曼哈頓東區的街道四處覓食，接著這隻貓就被帶到收容所。
Animal care workers do not know who was taking care of the cat, but Gentles said one thing is certain -- the pet did not travel half-way across the country on its own. "The cat was in very good condition, clean, a little chunky," Gentles said. "So obviously someone was taking care of her."
動物收容所的工作人員不知道誰照顧這隻貓，不過詹托斯說，有一件事是確定的︰這隻寵物不是自己遊走半個美國。「這隻貓的情況非常好、乾淨、有點胖，」詹托斯說，「所以顯然有人照顧她。」

Fat cells in the skin have been identified as the source of chemicals needed to make hair grow, according to researchers in the US. Experiments on mice, reported in the journal Cell, suggested hair stem cells were controlled by fat.
根據美國研究人員表示，皮膚的脂肪細胞已被認定是頭髮成長必需的化學物質來源。「細胞」期刊刊登的老鼠實驗顯示，頭髮幹細胞是由脂肪控制。
Injecting a type of fat cell stimulated hair growth in mice which otherwise struggled to grow hair. The Yale University team says it may be possible to use the findings to one day restart hair growth to reverse balding.
注射一種脂肪細胞可刺激有生髮困難的老鼠頭髮生長。耶魯大學團隊說，有朝一日，這項發現或能重啟頭髮生長，來扭轉禿頭。
They said there was a four-fold increase in the number of "precursor" fat cells in the skin around a hair follicle when it started to grow. They looked at defective mice which could not produce these fat cells. Hair normally grows in cycles, but in the defective mice - the follicles had become trapped in the dormant phase of the cycle.

（新加坡7日訊）新加坡前內閣資政李光耀認為，必須在孩子踏入幼稚園時就讓他接觸正確英語，學校要有良好的閱讀風氣，要提高孩子的表達能力，讓孩子有講英語的機會。
他也說，由於美國媒體的滲透率越來越大，人們接觸美式英語的機會也越來越多，教導學生美式英語將是大勢所趨。
