象徵春節結束的元宵節，落在今天，各地也紛紛陸續展開傳統的慶祝活動，帶您一起來看看。

平溪天燈 
在元宵節的這一天，新北市於晚間舉辦了最後一場平溪天燈節活動，在十分廣場登場，現場總共施放了一千七百多盞的天燈，相當壯觀。

南鹽水蜂炮
超過兩百年歷史的鹽水蜂炮，重頭戲在今晚登場。還有兩百座大大小小的炮城，火力全開，讓鹽水變成不夜城。

高燈車遊行
高雄燈會活動，今晚於愛河沿線五福路、中山路及三多路等舉行元宵節燈車遊行，觀光局除了發放第二波小提燈外，還有花燈展示，藝人表演及煙火秀等活動，非常熱鬧。

Lantern Festival traditionally concludes the Lunar New Year holiday. To commemorate this important date, activities took place around Taiwan today. 

Pingxi Sky Lanterns
This evening was the culmination of New Taipei City’s Pingxi Sky Lantern festival. Some 1,700 sky lanterns were released at Shihfen Square, creating a truly spectacular sight.

Yanshui Beehive Fireworks 
With more than 200 years of history, Yanshui’s Beehive Fireworks Festival came to a stunning climax this evening. Nearly 200 fireworks fortresses of different sizes were exploded. 

Kaohsiung Lantern Festival
Specially decorated lantern theme floats traveled alongside the Love River this evening, following Wufu, Zhongshan and Sanduo roads. Also, the Tourism Bureau distributed another round of handheld lanterns, and of course large-scale lanterns were on display together with a special fireworks show. 

周三凌晨，台北市發生26年來最大地震，震撼大台北600萬居民。距離震央最近的大屯火山觀測站，更有驚人發現！專家在震央附近100公尺處，找到一個過去沒被發現的正斷層，還剛好跟震央深度一致，因此研判跟這次地震很有關聯！專家警告，火山區的斷層帶有機會出現最強規模七的強震，最好不要興建房屋，學校等建築物！

12號凌晨，台北市士林發生規模4.0地震，位在震央附近的大屯山火山觀測站，專家在調查兩天後，發現一個離震央附近100公尺處，從沒記載在文獻上的，正斷層，認為與地震很有關聯。

“地底下的岩層如果有錯動，它就會產生震動，震動就會透過地震波傳到地表，我們地表監測站就會偵測到這些訊號，看波的特性，們可以去估算出來，它是一個正斷層”

由於位於大屯火山群，地底活動頻繁，又發現新斷層，更要格外小心！

“全世界的監測在火山地區，不太可能累積太大的能量，來產生大的地震，意思說像規模7以上地震，在火山地區是很少很少見的，地震都會有持續性有，在上面當然不能蓋建築物學校房子”

專家警告，不要在斷層上，興建學校等大型建築物，大屯山上平等國小，大屯國小，都被點名。

Following Wednesday morning’s earthquake geologists have discovered a previously undocumented fault. The fault is close to the epicenter of the quake and thought to be related to the quake. 

Just after midnight on Wednesday, Shilin experienced a magnitude 4.0 earthquake. After two days of studying data from a Mt. Datun seismic station, a new fault was found 100 meters away from the epicenter.

A dislocation of underground rock formations produces a vibration, with shock waves spreading to the surface. Our seismic stations recorded this signal. We believe it originated from a normal fault. 

Frequent activity within the Datun volcano group, along with the discovery of the new fault, has led experts to urge extra caution.

From monitoring many volcanic regions around the world, we have found that it is unlikely to accumulate enough energy to produce a big earthquake. In other words, earthquakes above magnitude 7 are rare in volcanic areas. But there are frequent earthquakes, so you shouldn’t build schools or houses here.

Two schools are already in the area: Pingdeng and Datun elementary.

內政部研議，將把明年碰上週休的國定假日補回。

以往每年休假日約有114或115天，明年僅有109天，包括端午、中秋、雙十等6天碰上週休，引發民怨，內政部研議將透過修改「紀念日及節日放假辦法」，補回休假。

Next year will not be a good one in terms of holiday, unless the Ministry of the Interior follows through with mooted revisions. 

Typically, Taiwan enjoys 114 or 115 non-work days a year. In 2015, there will only be 109 days off because Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ten Day and other holidays happen to fall on weekends. The ministry is considering revising regulations to return some of these days to the people.

馬年開春，鴻海大動作展示雄心。

Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou made an impressive pledge today – to hire 15,000 workers in Taiwan. Taiwan stands to benefit from Hon Hai’s moves to increase manufacturing outside of China. Hon Hai is also looking to move its manufacturing bases closer to its markets, which will benefit countries with large populations and economic advantages, such as Indonesia and the United States. 

Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou chose today, Lantern Festival and Valentine’s Day, for the official start of work for his company following spring festival. He led a group of Hon Hai executives in offering incense. 

Gou showed off some of Hon Hai’s new products, such as a 120-inch television, said to be the world’s largest.

The price will be shocking. We will probably accept orders in Q3 and begin shipment in Q4.

Gou also led reporters on a tour of the company’s exhibition space, which included 70 different stalls showcasing Hon Hai’s world-class technology. He expressed confidence in Taiwan’s economy and plans to recruit more staff this year.

Taiwan lacks people with experience in industry making industrial policy. It doesn’t have a leading enterprise or emerging enterprises. But I have great confidence in Taiwan, so (this year) we hope to recruit 15,000 employees.

In April or May, Hon Hai plans to announce plans for investing in Indonesia.

陸委會主委王郁琦昨天證實，他跟中國國台辦主任張志軍閒聊時，確實有談到「馬習會」，藍綠立委今天各自表態。

不過王郁琦在晚間的返台記者會進一步表示，張志軍在他表達台灣盼在APEC舉行馬習會的立場時表示，中國認為「不合適」，而且沒有提出任何替代方案，因此在APEC舉行馬習會的可能性已經不高了。

When Taiwan sent its top cross-strait policy planner to meet his counterpart in China, there was hope for a meeting between the two sides’ presidents later this year. On Friday evening, when Mainland Affairs Council Minister Wang Yu-chi returned to Taiwan, he put that idea to rest. Wang said Beijing believes APEC is an inappropriate setting, and it didn’t name a location that it would accept. 

Twice Mainland Affairs Council Minister Wang Yu-chi, of Taiwan, and Taiwan Affairs Office Minister Zhang Zhijun, of China, met at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai. For the first time, these two government officials discussed a potential meeting between the presidents of Taiwan and China.

We mentioned this issue during casual conversation. Each of us expressed our positions.

Before leaving for China, Wang mentioned that the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing would be an appropriate setting for Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou and Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet.

This year’s APEC Beijing summit offers the best chance for a Ma-Xi meeting because politics isn’t a part of APEC. It’s open to participation from economic leaders.

The DPP isn’t opposed to such a meeting, but Legislator Tsai Huang-liang named four conditions, at least one of which China would certainly oppose.

The only way that President Ma can get the support of the Taiwanese people is if he upholds four principles: use of the title of the president of the Republic of China, along with equality, respect, and choosing an appropriate location.

The KMT is eager for the Ma-Xi meeting to take place. But upon returning to Taiwan, Wang threw cold water on the proposal. This evening he finally revealed that Zhang said China is opposed to a meeting taking place at APEC. Zhang did not offer any other options.
