Following in the footsteps of Phoenix Tours, another of Taiwan’s leading travel agencies will list on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Lion Travel is scheduled to join the nation’s main exchange on Sept. 24.
The big news was announced by Lion Travel Chairman Jason Wang. Shares for his company are expected to have an issue price of around NT$70.
Among Lion Travel’s competitors is Phoenix Tours, which listed on the exchange two years ago. Wang believes that in the crowded travel market, there is plenty of room for growth.

微軟公司為了拓展手機部門業務，宣佈以72億美元，超過新台幣兩千一百億的高價，買下諾基亞的手機部門。
諾基亞原本是全球手機業龍頭，但因智慧型手機起步太慢錯失市場，業績萎縮，只好關廠裁員。整個交易預計將在明年第一季完成，不過前提是要所有諾基亞股東同意這項交易。
Microsoft announced that it will buy Nokia’s handset and services businesses. It will pay US$7.2 billion, equivalent to more than NT$200 billion.
Nokia used to be the world’s leading cell phone maker, but its slow entry into the smartphone market led to reduced business, closed factories and layoffs. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year and must be approved by Nokia’s shareholders.

日前的大雨，基隆北寧路天降巨石，差點砸中汽車，現在上頭還有巨石沒有清除，道路封閉，公車停駛，使得封路一帶得住家、店家大受影響，還傳出有學生因為沒公車可搭，向校方請”巨石假”。
北寧路這一頭，道路封閉，汽車繞道。
另一頭，碧砂漁港旁，也不給大車過，北寧路巨石從山壁滾下，危機還沒清除，封路清理，可苦了封路一帶的商家。
速食店大門上鎖乾脆不營業等路通，有的店家直接拉上鐵門。

校方否認有巨石假，但看看北寧路封路的這一段，該是車水馬龍的台2線，馬路幾乎沒車，居民就盼巨石危機快解除。
Life is quiet on sections of Keelung’s Beining Road, where residents and local business owners are waiting for the city to clear a massive boulder sitting on an adjacent hill. The rock was exposed during recent storms and there are fears that it could tumble down the hill at any time.
This section of Beining Road is closed, forcing vehicles to make a detour.
At the other end is Keelung’s Bisha Harbor. Large vehicles cannot pass because there is still the fear of a boulder above Beining Road tumbling down. With the road closed for cleanup and safety, local businesses are suffering.

Buses that go to schools will continue to operate as usual, though they will need to take minor detours, leading some children to potentially be slightly tardy. As long as they can prove they were tardy because of this (road closure), we will be lenient.
School authorities deny granting a special holiday due to road conditions. But a quick look at this once bustling section of Taiwan Provincial Highway 2 shows that it is currently devoid of cars. Residents pray that the road can be cleared as soon as possible.

有許多民眾會將壞掉或騎膩了的腳踏車直接丟掉，新北市中和清潔隊為了讓這些廢棄單車重生，特別成立維修站，陸續修好的腳踏車，已經超過上千輛。
短短幾分鐘，一輛腳踏車已經被大卸八塊，壞掉的零件、破掉的輪胎，在環保隊員何德龍的巧手下，恢復原貌、完好如初，但眼前的這些鐵馬，原本都是民眾丟掉的廢棄物。

中心軸這樣都沒有晃，輪軸轉動時很順暢，這個就沒關係，但有的發出雜音，就是裡面珠子破掉了，要拔下來，拔下來換。
過去幾年來，台灣掀起一股腳踏車熱潮，鐵馬汰換率也跟著提高，新北市的中和清潔隊，因此成立維修站，把每個月回收的二、三十輛腳踏車，重新拼裝、整理，賦予它們新的生命。

有一陣子流行小摺 ，一陣子過去之後，公路車也出來流行，那小摺大家就丟出來了，有一陣子就小摺(回收)特別的多。那現在，淑女車又特別的多，因為現在可能流行公路車。
腳踏車維修過後，維修站會舉行拍賣，而拍賣所得都捐出去做公益。
從維修站成立後，原本是腳踏車墳場的中和環保清潔隊，現在便成了鐵馬的再生工廠。
When bicycles break down or become old, many people abandon or dispose of them. Rather than consign these bikes to the dumpster, a New Taipei sanitation crew repairs and sells them, donating the proceeds to charity.

Over the past few years, Taiwan has seen a bicycle boom accompanied by the discarding of old bikes. A sanitation crew in New Taipei’s Zhonghe District established a repair center which collects between 20 and 30 bicycles each week. It refurbishes and gives them new life.

For a while small folding bicycles were popular, though road bikes later became trendy. We recovered the folding bikes that people tossed out. Now, we get a lot of women’s bikes because they too seem to be switching to road bikes.
After the abandoned bicycles are repaired, a special auction is held with all proceeds donated to charity.
This repair center has allowed the New Taipei sanitation team to breathe new life into discarded bicycles.

鋒面遠離，全台天氣變得比較穩定，但原本在台灣東北方的熱帶性低氣壓，今天清晨兩點，增強為今年第17號颱風桔梗，目前氣象局研判，不會對台灣造成直接影響。周三前全台天氣穩定，不過因為吹比較涼的北風，所以北台灣早晚氣溫還是有點涼颼颼。
陽光終於露臉，民眾上街穿著輕便，還撐起了陽傘，但鋒面才剛走，原本在台灣東北方的熱帶性低壓，就增強為今年第17號輕度颱風"桔梗"。
氣象局依照目前路徑研判，輕颱桔梗對台灣沒有直接影響，加上外圍沉降氣流作用，台灣周邊水氣變少，因此周三前各地天氣都比較穩，只有東半部可能出現零星降雨。
雖然雨暫時不下了，但北台灣早晚依然涼颼颼。

週四台灣周邊改吹東南風，氣溫就會逐漸回升。不過氣象局說，周四後水氣增加，全台都可能出現降雨情況，週末假期天氣恐怕又會不穩定了。
Forecasters expect little rain over the next couple days, despite the formation of a tropical storm just off Taiwan’s northeast coast. But the relatively cool, dry weather enjoyed on Monday is only expected to last until Thursday, when warmer, moisture-carrying air arrives.
With the sun finally showing its face, on the streets people could be seen dressed casually and toting parasols. There was reason to believe that this weather would be short-lived, following the formation of a tropical storm off Taiwan’s northeast coast.
But forecasters say Toraji, the 17th tropical storm of the year, will not have a direct impact on Taiwan. Its periphery is actually causing moisture in the air around the island to drop, which will lead to better weather through the middle of the week. Only eastern regions could see scattered showers.
The most surprising weather condition over the past couple of days though was the mild, breezy air.

我國高手好手曾雅妮，在LPGA喜互惠菁英賽前三輪登上領先地位，打出昔日世界第一的身手，原本有機會終結睽違一年多的冠軍荒，沒想到今天最後一輪出現大亂流，曾雅妮吞下六個柏忌還有一個雙柏忌，只抓下兩隻小鳥，最後以276桿，並列第九作收，雖然無法奪冠，但曾雅妮的手感已經逐漸回來了。

Former world number 1 Yani Tseng was in good position to end a long drought and return to her winning ways. Unfortunately for the Taiwanese golfer, the final round of the LPGA Safeway Classic proved more difficult than she expected.
In the lead after three rounds of play, Yani Tseng was on the cusp of achieving her first win in more than a year and a half. But her poor play started early in the final round, as she double bogeyed the second hole. She followed this up with bogeys on the next two holes, and her confidence collapsed. She was able to regain some ground when she birdied the seventh hole, lifting her spirits.
But this would not be enough as her poor play continued on the back nine.
Tseng would bogey holes 10, 12 and 16, finishing the day at a 6-over 78, giving her 278 for the tournament. She tied for ninth place. Suzann Pettersen won with a 20-under 268. While Tseng squandered a chance to win the tournament, she could take some solace in that it was her first top 10 performance in 15 tournaments over the past six months.

HTC and EVA Airways jointly launched a special Hello Kitty cell phone today. Just 3,000 will be available to the public and they can only be purchased aboard EVA flights.
The launch press conference was attended by EVA Chairman Chang Kuo-wei along with HTC Asia-Pacific Region President Tung Chun-liang. Local media were interested in much more than the phone. They asked about the leak of company secrets by HTC executives. Tung said justice would be served and the launch of new products would not be affected.

南迴鐵路在八月三十一號發生列車撞上土石流的意外,導致列車脫軌分離,17人輕重傷。原本預計明天一早才會恢復通車,但在台鐵人員和國軍弟兄不眠不休的搶修之下,提前到今天上午十點半恢復通車。
機車頭緩緩開進出事的枋山二號隧道內,一路平安順暢的開出隧道,來回試了兩次車,台鐵宣布上午十點半南迴線恢復通車。
清晨時，工程人員趕緊把脫離位置的鐵軌重新擺好,仔細校正有沒有直後，再緊緊的栓牢。鐵軌中間和旁邊過多的土石也得挖除。
第一班列車是從高雄新左營站發出的自強號,中午通過事故現場。而台東方面往高雄的列車也在約11點發出。直到這一刻,工作人員終於鬆了一口氣。
Service has resumed on the South-Link Railway after workers toiled day and night to repair track and clear dirt and mud. The line connects the eastern and western coasts at the southern end of the island but was closed after a landslide caused a train derailment.
After a locomotive twice slowly entered and exited the Fangshan second tunnel without incident, Taiwan Railways announced that service would resume at 10:30 am on the South-Link Railway.
Early in the morning, builders repaired rail tracks that went course. After recalibrating and fixing the tracks, they cleared rocks and soil.
The first service was an express train that left from New Zuoying Station in Kaohsiung and passed through the tunnel around noon. Heading in the opposite direction, a train left Taitung at around 11 in the morning. When it passed through the tunnel, workers finally were able to relax.

During last week’s tropical storm, the most heavily affected areas were in southern Taiwan. Hamstrung by a rapidly depleting flood management budget, today the leaders of five southern cities and counties gathered to urge the central government to furnish more funds.
It was a rare site to see the leaders of Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung together. They urged the government to continue providing flood management funding to the tune of NT$60 billion over six years.

連日豪雨帶來的問題，還有基隆山壁上一顆體積約800立方米的巨石，物理老師算出，如果巨石掉落，重力加速度，撞擊力道破上萬公斤。為了避免災禍，基隆市府打算以化學藥劑讓巨石崩壞。
大石頭半懸空卡在山腰，而且下方沒有植被緩衝，只要碰上地震或著下場大雨，巨石可能隨時滑落。
逢甲大學地質調查團利用直昇機高空偵測，巨石下方有一棟屋子，距離山腳約150公尺，而200公尺遠處還有速食店，周圍也緊鄰民宅，而這顆石頭在工務處測量下，算出體積約800立方米，最重可達2000噸，要是從山頂滑落，撞擊力道難以想像。

市府目前評估，工務處先上山開路，再讓怪手進入，擊碎巨石底下小石頭，接著才能用化學藥劑讓巨石崩壞，預估約七個工作天才能完成移除。
Two days ago a driver narrowly escaped death when a massive boulder tumbled down a road in northern Taiwan. Another precariously placed boulder in Keelung also appears to be on the verge of descent. Officials in Keelung plan to use chemical injections to break apart the rock and avoid a potential disaster.
This huge boulder is balancing precipitously high up on the hillside. There is no vegetation below to stop it from falling. Many worry that an earthquake or another round of heavy rains could set this dangerous boulder crashing down.
A Feng Chia University geological survey team used a radio controlled helicopter to investigate the scene and identify a potential path for the boulder. There is a building about 150 meters away from the foot of the mountain, and 200 meters away there is a fast food restaurant, as well as other buildings in the periphery.The Public Works Bureau estimates this boulder is 800 cubic meters in size and could weigh up to 2,000 tons. Should this stone fall from its position up the hill, the impact would be devastating.

We plan to use so-called “silent explosives,” which in fact will be chemical injections. First we drill a hole and inject it with chemical agents, which expand and crack open the stone.
The Public Works Bureau wants to excavate a road up the mountain so a backhoe can enter. It will smash smaller rocks below the boulder to aid in the process of the chemical injections destroying the larger boulder. The task is expected to take a week to complete.

同樣是受到連日豪雨影響，屏東縣來義鄉來義村的東部落，昨天中午發生大崩山，大小土石崩落，一直到今天上午，還有零星落石
紀錄走山實況的村民們紛紛驚聲尖叫，所幸山腳下沒有民宅，因此並沒有傳出人員傷亡。這座山在2009年八八水災、以及隔年的919水災都崩落過，這次已是第3次大山崩。
Consecutive days of torrential rain also caused a major landslide in the Pingtung County township of Laiyi. After the main disaster struck midday Sunday, today rocks and other debris continued to scatter down the mountainside.
Witnesses who captured footage were excited. Fortunately, no homes were located in the path of the debris and nobody was hurt. This same mountain was the site of landslides during Typhoon Morakot in 2009 and torrential rain and flooding the following year.

您知道除了小麥外，米也能製成麵條嗎? 雲林有一個製麵廠，老闆花了兩年多的時間研發，做出不含麩質的米麵條，而且不用熱水煮，只要放在冷水浸泡四十分鐘就能吃。
把一粒粒白米磨成粉，這些米粉要做的可是麵條。
先把米粉和點水進行攪拌，拌勻後再倒入製成機器中，利用高壓、高溫，百分之百,全米做的麵條就慢慢成型。
最後還要花上六到八個小時吹乾，這就是獨特、少見的米麵條。老闆說，花了兩年多的時間試驗開發，最大的技術突破點，就是如何讓不含麩質的米能夠壓製成麵條。

米麵條跟一般麵條最主要的差別在於，不用熱水煮，只要用冷水泡上四十分鐘後，就能品嚐，它能在發生災難時派上用場。
The owner of a noodle factory in Yunlin spent two years to develop gluten free rice noodles. These noodles can even be cooked simply by soaking in cold water for 40 minutes.
This rice is ground into a powder before being used to produce rice noodles.
Later, a little water is added to this rice powder and mixed. Then it is placed into this machine, which uses high pressure and high temperate to produce pure rice noodles that slowly emerges from this machine.
The final process includes six to eight hours of drying, which is unique for rice noodles. The inventor spent more than two years developing these noodles, noting the biggest technological breakthrough involved making gluten free noodles from rice.

We use high pressure along with high temperature to prepare these rice noodles. Their density allows them to become chewier when they are placed into water.
One of the major differences between rice noodles and other noodles is that they don’t need to be boiled. In fact, after soaking for just 40 minutes in water they can be eaten. They can be a useful meal in the event of an emergency.

菲律賓災情慘重，我國立即展開人道援助行動，外交部長林永樂說，政府跟民間的捐款及物資，超過400萬美元，另外，100頓的物資，在國防部的協助下，從星期二到星期六，每天兩架次的C-130運輸機送到菲律賓。總統馬英九也說，必要時會派遣軍艦幫忙運送。

Shipments of goods are departing Taiwan daily for the Philippine city of Cebu. The deliveries are just one part of how Taiwan is helping its neighbor following the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan.
A Philippine official expresses deep thanks. This C-130 landed at Cebu Airport stocked with supplies donated from Taiwan. The two nations don’t have official diplomatic relations, but Taiwan is still helping in time of need.

為了促進台美雙邊經貿關係，外貿協會與美國亞利桑那州商務廳，簽署合作備忘錄。
外貿協會董事長王志剛表示，將有助台商在美國發展，並且跟美商合作，這也是今年3月以來，台美恢復雙邊「貿易暨投資架構協定」（TIFA）會談後，貿協第3次與美國商務機構簽約合作。
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council, or TAITRA, has signed a cooperation memorandum with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce.
TAITRA Chairman Wang Chih-kang says the pact will help local businesses make inroads into the United States. This is the third cooperation pact TAITRA has signed with a US commercial group since March, when Trade and Investment Framework Agreement talks with the US resumed.

食品大廠-統一集團董事長高清愿昨天宣布交棒；同時間，晶圓代工龍頭-台積電張忠謀也退位CEO。不過，這兩大產業龍頭的世代交替，似乎沒有衝擊到股價。分析師和投資人認為，兩大企業獲利營收可觀，接班佈局早就啟動，因此世代交替，表現都不會太差。
12號台積電董事會，張忠謀宣布退位CEO。雖然這家晶圓代工龍頭，未來交由劉德音、魏哲家兩位執行長雙人共治，但張忠謀一句「還是會管事」，卻讓法人投資人，吃了定心丸。
雖然國際半導體市場發展趨緩，使台積電的股價今天下跌約2%，不過，權值股、法人照樣買單，當然是看準光今年1到10月，台積電營收就上看5030億，比去年成長18.27%！而且張忠謀接班佈局，其實老早準備好。

而同樣宣布改朝換代的食品大廠-統一集團，受惠「統一超商」、「統一實業」獲利大躍進，累計前三季合併營收達3255億，比去年同期成長5.4%。單季及累計營收都創歷史高點下，即使高清愿交棒，對股價也沒太大影響。

像統一那個(董事長高清愿)已經早就，稍微有在退居幕後了，都可以看得出來，所以你看它股價表現也還好，因為它們每年的獲利都很穩定。
雖然近期投信持續站在賣方，但外資是「買多、賣少」，投資人也看好統一後續營收。
Investors concentrated mostly on prospects for future growth when trading shares in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Uni-President Enterprises Corp. today. Both companies announced major management reshuffles on Tuesday, though the changes were expected and had little effect on prices.
On Tuesday TSMC Chairman Morris Chang announced he will relinquish his role as CEO. Taking over as co-CEOs will be Mark Liu and C. C. Wei, though Chang also said he will remain as an active chairman, providing relief to investors.
TSMC shares dropped about 2 percent today, though the decline had more to do with a slowdown in the global semiconductor business than the leadership changes. There is much reason for optimism in TSMC: it’s heavily weighted, revenues between January and October exceeded NT$500 billion, nearly a fifth higher than the same period last year. And the company has been preparing for Chang’s gradual exit.

The most important reason is that TSMC was already on this path. Institutional investors not only want to see who the chairperson is that is leading this company. They want to know whether the company can continue growing into a leader in this industry.
On the same day, food manufacturer Uni-President Group announced its own leadership change. Strong performances from two of its units – President Chain Store Corp. and Ton Yi Industrial Corp. – brought its revenues over the first three quarters to NT$325 billion, growth of more than 5 percent. After the group set records in single quarter and accumulated revenues, investors didn’t sell-off on news of Kao Chin-yen stepped down as chairman.

The Uni-President (chairman) was already stepping into the background. It was clear as day. So you can see the share price is good because every year their profits are stable.
In the short-term many investment trusts are taking a sell position on Uni-President, though foreign institutional investors are increasing their stake in the company. They have high hopes for strong future revenues.

澎湖馬公今天有一場燒王船儀式，這個習俗源於早期為了「趕走瘟疫」，演變至現代成了地方民間信仰，祈求平安的重要活動。
裝飾LED燈，還會噴出火焰的各式武轎，在送王前一天晚間進行遶境，由於是地方宗教大事，不少信徒熱情參與。
為了送王，馬公的西衛已經足足熱鬧兩個月，有傳統的陣頭，也有現代的辣妹鋼管，廟方說，這段期間，信徒很感謝王爺的庇祐。

今天是送王儀式的最高潮，要燒王船。長長的隊伍一路送到海邊，油罐車澆上汽油，原本要陪載的雞和豬以及羊，也象徵性的帶到現場後當場放生，隨後就是燒王船。
燒一次王船，總計花了一千多萬的經費，就希望祈安降福。
Penghu celebrated the burning of the Wang Yeh boat this evening. Tonight we take a look at this popular folk festival.
This sedan chair is decked in LED lights and can even spit out fire. One evening before the burning of the Wang Yeh boat, it was carried around the village in the company of passionate worshippers.
Celebrations have taken place over the past two months in Xiwei Village, Magong. Traditional marchers were joined by modern pole dancers. Participants want to thank the Wang Yeh deities for their protection.

This evening was the climax of the festival: burning of the Wang Yeh boat. Believers doused the boat in gasoline. Traditionally, animals were sent out with the boat, but this time they were released. After, the burning boat was sent out to sea.
Funding for the ceremony ran upwards of NT$10 million. If it brings peace and prosperity to this village, the money was well spent.

大導演李安第一次擔任金馬獎評審，昨天才回台灣，為了決審，一天要看4部入圍電影，他坦言首度當評審主席，壓力其實不小。
金馬獎邁入第50屆，今年在評審團決審工作結束前，舉行記者會，評審團主席，也是首度擔任金馬獎評審的大導演李安。

For the first time, acclaimed Oscar-winning director Ang Lee is serving as chairman of the jury for the Golden Horse Awards. After arriving in Taiwan, he says he has been watching four films a day and admits that chairing this jury is no easy feat.
The Golden Horse Awards is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A treat this year is that the celebrated director Ang Lee is heading the festival’s jury.

在美日職棒拿下201勝，外號龍捲風的日籍退役強投野茂英雄，今天和日職球星陽岱剛，一起到青棒訓練營授課。日前接受民視獨家專訪，野茂認為，台灣的棒球實力不輸給日本。
詭異的投球姿勢，和犀利無比的指叉球，伴隨著對手的揮棒落空，這就是野茂英雄給大家的印象，曾經在美國大聯盟和日本職棒拿下201的昔日強投，這次來台，抽空看了中日經典棒球對抗賽，對台灣年輕球員的實力給予高度肯定。

Hideo Nomo, a retired pitcher who starred in both Japan and the major leagues, is in Taiwan to participate in an elite youth baseball camp. The baseball legend says that young Taiwanese players compare favorably to their counterparts in Japan.
Nomo was known for his distinctive “tornado” style delivery along with a fork ball that often eluded batters. His storied professional career in Japan and the US included a total of 201 wins. His visit to Taiwan coincides with the Japan vs. Taiwan Baseball Challenge, and at the event he gave high marks to Taiwan’s young baseball players.

My initial impression is that Taiwan’s baseball skill is good and the hitting strong. My time here is short, so I can’t tell the difference between the two sides. But I can say that Taiwan’s level of play is not inferior to Japan.
Nomo came to Taiwan in 1997 to participate in a youth baseball camp. He was impressed by a number of promising young players, some of whom would go on to flourish in the major leagues, such as Wang Chien-ming and Tsao Chin-hui.

After retiring from professional baseball, Nomo continues to keep himself involved in the sport. Helping him on this trip is Yang Dai-kang, a Taiwanese player in Japan’s professional leagues. The two are working hard to encourage and train the next generation of star players.
