為了聲援林義雄，民進黨今天號召三千人一起上街頭，從義光教會所在的信義路三段，手牽手到凱道。

晚上八點十四分，參與活動的民眾以手機燈光照亮夜空，向總統府表達「2014停建核四」的訴求。

The DPP mobilized 3,000 people this evening in a show of support for former DPP Chairman Lin Yi-hsiung. Lin is on a hunger strike to pressure the government into stopping work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. Participants held hands, starting from Gikong Church located on Xinyi Road Section 3 and stretching all the way to Ketagalan Boulevard. 

At 8:14 this evening, participants simultaneously flashed their cell phone lights, sending a signal to the Presidential Office that they request a halt to the nuclear power plant project.

A four-day Taiwan souvenir exhibition will continue through the weekend at Taipei World Trade Center. While several vendors have individual displays, others are cooperating with local governments. A special Yunlin display features local coffee, carrot juice and other products. The exhibition offers an excellent chance to try a variety of local Taiwanese specialties in one location.

Also taking place at the Taipei World Trade Center is a wedding exhibition. Besides lavish wedding dresses and apparel, banquet merchants have made typical wedding fare more opulent through gold leaf infusions. The wedding exhibition lasts through Monday.

International Travel Fair
At the World Trade Center Taichung an international travel fair is taking place through Monday. Over 300 travel agents, hotels and other merchants are present, many offering steep discounts on domestic and international trips.

軍方一架阿帕契直升機，上午執行飛行訓練時，疑似機械因素，迫降在桃園龍潭民宅，機身嚴重毀損。

機上正副駕駛兩人幸運獲救，只有輕微擦傷。事故並未釀成爆炸，也沒波及人車。是人為因素或者是機械因素造成，目前軍方已經成立專案小組，著手調查當中。

The Army has grounded its fleet of Apache helicopters after one crashed into a building during a training exercise today. 

The accident, which occurred in Taoyuan, is suspected to have been caused by a mechanical failure. Fortunately, the pilot and co-pilot on board were rescued and suffered only minor abrasions.

呼應林義雄禁食行動，週六民間反核團體，爸爸非核陣線，先發起反核路跑活動，之後換綠盟接力，佔領凱道！但眼看前民進黨席林義雄，禁食後身體漸漸變差，導演柯一正就說，一旦林義雄出狀況，和平理性的活動，也可能變調，呼籲馬政府趕緊出面解決。

一箱又一箱的物資，旁邊的反核T恤、帽子也全部打包，為週六登場的反核路跑，做足準備。

除了號碼牌、核災宣導手冊，還包括反核毛巾、腰包，以及象徵核廢料的存錢筒，非核爸爸陣線，要號召全民，一起上街爭取非核家園。

那在這裡也呼籲所有民眾理性 和平，但也要呼籲馬政府，要預防民眾衝突最好的方式是，你悔悟 立即停建核四。

路跑當天還會有象徵核電廠的怪獸，緊跟參加民眾後頭。


但眼看前民進黨主席林義雄，持續禁食，身體健康令人擔憂，導演柯一正就說，一旦林義雄出狀況，恐怕將引起群情激憤。

對我們來說，林義雄像是精神上的領導人物，你到禮拜六禮拜天，你不能有妥善的處理，一個老先生他身體越來越衰弱的話，我覺得那個局勢，不是他(馬英九)能控制跟收拾的。

反核路跑完，綠盟再接棒，下午三點發起佔領凱道活動，將持續到4/27號早上。

Anti-nuclear groups and a pan-green alliance have a slate of anti-nuclear activities planned for Saturday. They will hold a protest run and occupy an area in front of the Presidential Office as a way of expressing opposition to the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. 

Box after box of anti-nuclear T-shirts and hats are being readied for Saturday’s anti-nuclear road race. 

In addition to numbers for the runners and manuals instructing people about what to do in case of a nuclear disaster, other items such as towels, purses, and piggy banks are being offered by the anti-nuclear NGO Papa No Nuke. Organizers are calling on everyone to turn out for a nuclear-free homeland

We ask everyone to act rationally and peacefully. We also warn the Ma administration that the best way to prevent civil strife is to show regret and immediately halt the project.

The road race will include a nuclear monster that will chase runners from behind. 

Film director Ko Yi-cheng said that concerns for the health of former DPP Chairman Lin Yi-hsiung, who is continuing his hunger fast, may enrage participants.

Later in the day, a pan-green alliance will take over activities. It has planned an occupation of Ketagalan Boulevard that will begin at 3 pm and continue until the following morning.

馬總統不想停建核四，中研院副研究員黃國昌也解讀，政府就怕核四一停建，會失了面子。 

Friday was the fourth day of former DPP Chairman Lin Yi-hsiung’s hunger strike. Among those who expressed support for his cause today were leaders of the recent protests against the cross-Taiwan Strait services trade pact. 

This is Lin Yi-hsiung coming out to express gratitude to supporters. The hunger strike is taking a visible toll on his body. Compared to a photo from day one of his fast, Lin’s face seems dull and haggard. But he appeared stable when walking and was unwavering in his opposition to nuclear power. 

A leader of the Sunflower Movement took to Facebook to show support, writing that if Lin falls, the Ma government must fall with him. Paying a visit to the site of Lin’s hunger strike were student leaders Lin Fei-fan and Chen Wei-ting, together with Academia Sinica member Huang Kuo-chang.

It’s hard to image the toll that a four-day hunger strike can have on a person this old. The request to end construction on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant is clear. We hope President Ma can use his position to meet this request, instead of repeating the endless cagey speech he used during the services trade pact protests.

According to Huang, the government is unwilling to let construction on the plant end because it fears loss of face.

會談結束前，蘇貞昌還拿出事前準備好的，林義雄新書，送給馬總統。將近一個半小時的馬蘇會，馬蘇只有針鋒相對，毫無交集。

As President Ma and Chairman Su debated the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, a former DPP chairman continued his hunger strike. Sympathy for Lin Yi-hsiung, a long opponent of nuclear power, was used by Su as an example of why work on the plant should be halted.

After 50 minutes of discussion, where President Ma insisted work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant could not stop and the referendum voter turnout threshold could not be lowered, Su Tseng-chang decided to bring up Lin Yi-hsiung.

Four days ago as I sat down with former Chairman Lin Yi-hsung, I gave you this open letter. Now, Lin’s hunger strike is already in its fourth day, and the location is where his mother and twin girls were murdered. Lin doesn’t express animosity toward those in power when in fact the Taiwanese people owe him so much.

Su says he remembers the Lin family massacre vividly. He added that the public could no longer wait to decide the fate of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant.

Before the meeting concluded, Su presented Ma with a copy of Lin’s new book. If today’s meeting is any indication, it will be unlikely to sway the president.

A televised meeting between President Ma Ying-jeou and DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang turned into a heated debate on Friday. Su wants construction immediately stopped on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, while Ma insists it should be finished but a referendum held before fuel rods are installed.

Ma and Su began with a handshake, but the peace lasted fewer than 10 minutes.

President Ma said the KMT legislative caucus adopted a resolution on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant the previous evening. Once construction of the plant is completed, installation of fuel rods will not take place until a referendum is held. Su, however, was unwilling to accept this course of action.

Rather than an immediate stop to construction, this is immediate continuation of construction. More money will have to be spent to finish work on the plant.

Construction is ongoing. There is no such thing as immediate continuation. Civil engineering and machinery associated with the first reactor of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant are essentially completed. Safety tests are taking place. We pledge that a decision will not be made until these tests are completed. A decision is not necessary now because safety tests are not finished.

Ma and Su failed to reach agreement during the 80-minute meeting.

Taiwan’s Chen Wei-yin took the mound as the Baltimore Orioles faced the Kansas City Royals. It was Chen’s best outing of the year as Chen gave up only 2 runs through 7 innings with 6 strikeouts. Unfortunately, Chen would exit the game with the score tied 2-2. 

In the first inning, the Orioles put 2 points on the scoreboard, but latter it was a succession of scoreless innings.

Chen ran into trouble in the third inning, as with two outs, he gave up a double which led a run to score. 

In the sixth inning, a fly ball landed for a single as the Royals tied the game. 

In the top of the seventh inning, runners were at first and second, as Chen battled to get a critical strikeout.

Chen would go deeper into this game than any other contest this year, tossing seven innings and recording 6 strikeouts, also a season high. However, he would also give up 9 hits and 2 runs.

Chen’s quality start did end up benefitting him as he would be credited with a no-decision but in the bottom of the tenth inning, a single by Nick Markakis would put across the winning run as the Orioles would defeat the Royals 3 to 2.

桃園創新技術學院的學生，4月30日、5月1日到南韓參加「國際料理烹飪大賽」，打敗中美日韓等7個國家奪下23面金牌、3面銀牌。

大量採用台灣客家料理食材梅干菜，再加上精緻的擺盤藝術設計，這群學生成了料理界的台灣之光。

Students and faculty from Taoyuan Innovation Institute of Technology displayed award-winning foods made using local ingredients. Last week these same dishes turned these chefs into the biggest winners at the 2014 Korea Food and Tourism Expo. 

These are all creative and mouthwatering dishes. They were not prepared by chefs form a five-star hotel but by local college students.

This dish uses bamboo leaves to wrap a whole fish and includes traditional Hakka mustard greens and tofu skin. It won great accolades in this South Korean competition.

This dish surprised and delighted some of the judges in South Korea.

Taoyuan Innovation Institute of Technology students took part in a culinary competition associated with the Korean Food and Tourism Expo last week in South Korea. The team defeated competitors from seven countries, including China, the United States, Japan and South Korea, to win 23 gold medals and three silver medals.

We worked hard and prepared and then went on to defeat South Korean competitors.

The students went heavy on the mustard greens, a common ingredient in Taiwanese Hakka dishes. They then added an artistic flourish to turn their foods into award-winning creations.

用三星蔥製成的蔥油餅，近年來走出宜蘭，成為家喻戶曉的美食。但不少店家，卻打著三星蔥油餅旗號，實際上用的卻不是三星蔥，三星鄉公所正式向經濟部，申請註冊「三星蔥油餅商標」。

Sanshing scallion pancakes can be bought across Taiwan, but not all vendors who sell them use scallions actually produced in the Yilan County township of Sanshing. To protect its brand, the local township office is seeking to trademark use of the Sanshing name. 

These scallion pancakes are a common snack in Taiwan. Filled with the flavor of green onion, they are best eaten hot off the fryer.

Across Taiwan, many vendors label these as Sanshing scallion pancakes, in reference to the township of Sanshing. But some vendors aren’t actually using Sanshing scallions. The township therefore has produced a label that will let consumers know if they are getting the real thing.

The township office has applied for a trademark from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. If approved, then as early as January only vendors who use scallions grown in Sanshing will be able to use the name “Sanshing” to describe their scallion pancakes. 

六年前能源局為了環保考量，強制要求業者在超級柴油中添加生質柴油，不過因為沒考慮到海島型氣候，生質柴油衍生出引擎熄火或油箱堵塞的情況，因此喊卡了。

車主加的超級柴油，裡面含有生質柴油，不但環保又可以省下空汙費，但因為台灣天氣潮濕，有部分車輛油箱因此堵塞，主管機關決定將生質柴油全面淘汰。

The Bureau of Energy has decided to end its support for biodiesel fuel. Taiwan’s humid climate caused the fuels to clog fuel tanks, affecting driving safety. 

Biodiesel fuel blends are promoted as an environmentally friendly option and method for reducing air pollution fees. But in Taiwan’s humid weather, biofuel-producing microbes can clog fuel tanks. Government authorities have therefore decided to effectively abandon biodiesel in Taiwan.

The zoo said Thursday that 5-year-old Sumatran tiger Melati has given birth to triplets, a little more than a year after the endangered tiger lost a three-week-old cub.
