Following a week of violence that left 140 people dead, Israel and Hamas agreed to a cease-fire that began early this morning. But there are still doubts over how long it will hold, with both sides saying they are ready to resume fighting if the other side violates the deal.
After eight days of fighting, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a truce.

For it to hold, the rocket attacks must end and a broader calm return.
The deal was brokered mainly by Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, with Secretary of State Clinton also involved. The two sides agreed to stop attacking each other starting early this morning, and Israel agreed to open the border with the Gaza Strip and ease restrictions on movements of people and goods.
Gaza Strip residents celebrated the cease-fire agreement as victory, firing off their guns into the air and honking their horns.
During the week-long violence, Israel carried out more than 1,500 strikes against the Gaza Strip, killing more than 100 Palestinians. Over the same period, Hamas fired nearly 1,400 rockets into Israeli territory, leading to the deaths of five Israelis.

在聯合國秘書長潘基文，美國國務卿希拉蕊，還有埃及總統穆希的居中協調下，以巴雙方同意，從台北時間22日凌晨三點開始，停止互相攻擊，同時迦薩走廊的邊界也解除封鎖，人員、貨物自由流通。
消息傳來，迦薩民眾欣喜若狂，紛紛上街遊行，對空鳴槍，狂按汽車喇叭，就連救護車都加入慶祝行列。
在連續八天的衝突中，以色列對迦薩一共發動超過一千五百次空襲，造成超過百人巴勒斯坦人死亡，而哈瑪斯朝對方發射了千枚飛彈，也釀成至少數名以色列人喪命。
