台灣和韓國同時宣布要傾力發展第五代行動通訊，也就是5G，台灣未來6年要投入120億元扶植5G，不過南韓在專利數是台灣的30倍，投資金額也高達450億，台灣要如何在國際打5G戰，引發討論。

因為網路，用手機下載電影將來會愈來愈普遍，不過以下載一部電影為例，4G只要40秒，但5G只要1秒！

台灣4G要到下半年才登場，為了急起直追，政府又開始要啟動5G扶植計劃，未來6年，每年提撥20億元，藉由完備台灣5G終端設備產業鍊，進入國際5G標準制定。

產業的整合是有這個必要性，從系統跟操作的合作到跟零組件的配合，怎麼樣把產業鍊在台灣建立起來，是很重要的。

不過和南韓相比，南韓企業的5G智慧財產權件數，是台灣的30倍，就連政府投入的資金，也相差懸殊，讓電電公會理事長郭台強呼籲台灣應加快腳步。

應該去國外併購一些有技術的公司，來推動來讓5G的發展更快速，至於併購的部份
政府可以去用外匯存底來支持。

南韓預計6年內落實5G飆網，還瞄準5G的電信設備商機，台灣要跟南韓搶行動通訊大餅，不論資金和專利都不如人，5G市場戰肯定是場硬仗。

Both Taiwan and South Korea announced recently that they hope to develop fifth-generation communication technologies over the next six years. But Taiwan lags behind its rival to the north in both planned investment and intellectual property, sparking debate about how Taiwan should proceed in the 5G field. 

Downloading movies on mobile phones is more popular than ever, but a movie that takes 40 seconds to download using 4G takes only a second to download on 5G.

Though 4G communications won’t begin in Taiwan until the second half of this year, the government is already looking to support next generation technologies. It intends to invest NT$2 billion a year over the next six years to help build an integrated 5G supply chain and get involved in setting international 5G standards.

It is necessary to integrate industries, from cooperation between systems and operations to components. How to build a supply chain in Taiwan is the most important issue.

But South Korea has a much bigger intellectual property portfolio in the field, with 30 times as many patents as Taiwan, and Taiwan’s planned investment is far lower than Korea’s, leading electronics association president Gou Tai-chiang to urge Taiwan to move faster.

We should look overseas to acquire companies with technologies to speed up 5G development. The government could use its foreign reserves to support the acquisitions.

South Korea expects to build a 5G network in six years and is targeting the communications equipment market for the technology. Taiwan hopes to battle for a share of the market, but without more funding and patents, it will be a tough fight.
