平均2千2百萬的年薪，超過了鈴木一朗在09年創下的1800萬美金，成為拿過最高年薪的日籍大聯盟球員。
專家認為，為了解決先發陣容的問題，簽下田中是洋基唯一的選擇，因為一號先發沙巴西亞與黑田博樹都上了年紀，諾瓦不穩定，皮內達最近受傷，讓洋基今年的表現充滿變數。

Most baseball observers figured the New York Yankees would go hard after star Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka this offseason. So it was no surprise when it was announced Wednesday that the Yankees had corralled their man with a seven-year, US$155 million deal.
The winner of his last 30 decisions in Japan, Masahiro Tanaka is now a New York Yankee.

The Yankees are a famous team with a lot of history, and the process of dealing with them felt different. I could feel that they really wanted me, and it made me want to play for them.
The contract, worth the equivalent of about 4.7 billion Taiwan dollars, was the fifth biggest contract ever given to a Major League pitcher. To clinch the deal and get Tanaka in pinstripes, the Yankees gave him an opt-out clause after his fourth season.
The deal makes Tanaka the highest paid Japanese big league player, his US$22 million a year salary more than the US$18 million a year Ichiro Suzuki signed for in 2009.
Many believe that the Yankees had no choice but to sign Tanaka, considering how suspect the rest of their rotation is. Right now, the Yankees’ other starters are aging C.C. Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda, inconsistent Ivan Nova and oft-injured Michael Pineda, not exactly sure things for a team desperate to get back into the playoffs
